Name of guest speakers: Jeffrey Allen and Agata Hidalgo. Organisation: HLP ( Healthy Lifestyle Programme). Date: 6-7 September 2017. What was discussed: Our class was given a talk about fitness and how exercise can improve your health. We were shown different exercises that can help strengthen the body. Our class was separated into 5 groups, where each team had to work together to complete various tasks.
We were given a talk, telling us the six key things to living a healthy life, which consisted of - exercise, diet, work, friends and family, relaxation and sleep. We were also told how important group dynamics are, in order for a group to get along well.
The next day we were told how important nutrition is and what foods are good and bad for us. Agata told us how obesity is one of the biggest problems today followed by diabetes. She explained to us that 20 years ago people in their 50's would have developed type 2 diabetes, but today kids as young as 4 are developing diabetes. These are two diseases that can be prevented if people stop eating sugary foods by replacing them with fruit and vegetables and other whole foods.
We were also told how almost every processed food contains an ingredient called MSG(Monosodium Glutamate). This ingredient is added to foods to enhance the taste and therefore making it addictive, resulting in people wanting more and more. This ingredient can be found on foods such as chinese and fast foods.
From this talk I have learned about the benefits of fitness and a good diet for the body. I am now much more aware of what ingredients in foods to stay away from and what foods are beneficial to the body. From now on I hope to become a healthier person.
