BT Young Scientist 2018
On Wednesday 10th January, myself Shauna and Mckenzie travelled to the RDS in Dublin to compete in the young scientist competition. Our project - To identify the number of tongue papille and taste- was based on how people taste foods differently, depending on the amount of papille on their tongue. We carried out a taste test on a group of 30 people. we blindfolded them and got them to block their nose. we then gave them a selection of different foods -spicy, sour, sweet. we then asked them to rate on a scale of 1-10 how strongly they could taste the food. after we put blue food colouring on the persons tongue, the placed a hole reinforcer and counted the amount of papille in the circle. from our results table we could tell that strong smokers, had a less amount of papillae and therefore they could not taste as strongly as others.
I really enjoyed participating at the young scientist and would definately take part again in the future.
